Uber Black is the best way to avoid being swindled, the yellow cabs generally work too.

Safety

The South Zone (Ipanema/Leblon/Copacabana) is generally safe. But avoid being alone in the streets past mid-night, just hop on an Uber even if you are close to home.

Don’t go up to the favelas and I would highly recommend against any favelas tour.
